Car-truck crash injures 8, shakes Bed-Stuy neighborhood

The source of support for a family that reaches from Brooklyn to Yemen is now in question after a serious vehicle accident. Police say the crash also left eight people injured. None of the victims are said to have suffered life-threatening injuries, but all required hospitalization. Their current conditions are unknown as this is written.

In cases such as this, it is legitimate for victims to wonder who should be held accountable. What course might be open to them to obtain the compensation they might need to recover physically and financially from the damage? The answer is one that is best addressed by consulting with an experienced attorney.

Authorities say the car-truck crash happened around 2 a.m. on June 20 at the corner of Dekalb and Bedford Avenues. They say a garbage truck was going through the intersection on a green light when a car ran a red light. The truck driver reportedly swerved to avoid hitting the car, lost control and ran headlong into the Gourmet Deli, a 24-hour bodega.

Damage to the storefront was so significant that NBC reported that city officials evacuated the building that houses the shop and one next door while they removed the wreckage of the truck and confirmed that the buildings were safe. The residents were reportedly allowed back in sometime later.

A member of the family that owns and runs the deli says it's been their livelihood since 1983. He says it has supported his extended family here in New York and back in Yemen all that time. Because of that, he says the family will assess the damage and try to rebuild.

But two male members of the family who were working in the store at the time of the vehicle crash are said to have been among those hurt.
