Young people die in Astoria after car plunges into a creek

Law enforcement authorities believe that weather and speed may have been contributing factors in an accident that took the lives of four individuals.  The accident occurred at Steinway Creek in Astoria.  It is thought that the driver attempted to make a U-turn while approaching the end of a roadway, lost control of his 2009 Honda Accord and went into the water after the car turned over.  The police appeared to have ruled out alcohol as a factor in this accident and no criminal charges were expected to be brought against the driver.

The driver managed to escape from the vehicle and then call 911.  The driver suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.  However, the other four individuals remained trapped in the vehicle along an inlet off of the East River.  The car was located eight feet under the water.  The four deceased individuals were between the ages of 19 and 21-years-old.  All four lived close to each other in Queens' East Elmhurst neighborhood.

The loss of life as a result of this car accident is enormous. While investigation will need to continue, this very well could have been an accident that could have been avoided if certain precautions had been taken.

The consequences of car accidents are often sudden and tragic. Unfortunately, certain drivers do not take seriously the responsibilities of driving and others often end up being victims. Regardless of how the accident occurred, family members will be facing a great shock when they lose a loved one in this manner. While compensation cannot take back what has occurred, it sometimes can prevent families from suffering even more due to financial problems that have arisen as the result of such an accident. Personal injury attorneys can represent victims and family members to make certain their needs are addressed.
