Woman almost loses her arm in food cart crash

A woman almost lost her arm after a yellow cab smashed into a halal food cart in the Upper West Side. According to witnesses, a black Honda sedan hit the yellow cab, on Monday, sending it hurtling up over the curb and onto the sidewalk on Broadway. The cabbie then collided with the food cart.

The halal food cart flew into a utility truck and trapped a female pedestrian between the two objects. Witnesses said that the Honda driver left the scene without even stopping to see if there were injuries. As of last reports, the pedestrian was being treated at Bellevue Hospital for critical injuries.

On Monday evening, authorities were still trying to piece together the accident scene and locate video footage that may have captured the escaping Honda. Obviously, it's very important that the locate the runaway driver in order to bring this person to justice in the event that he or she is ultimately faulted with the crash.

After the Honda fled, several good samaritans assisted in lifting the cart off the 28-year-old woman who was screaming for help after the incident. One man who came to the woman's aide said that he will never forget her screams and he hopes she will be okay. At the same time, the man said that the he hoped the Honda driver "gets what they deserve."

Hopefully, authorities will succeed in locating the Honda driver and bring him or her to justice. Locating a hit-and-run driver is not only essential for criminal justice, but it is also essential for victims who wish to seek personal injury claims against at fault drivers following a crash.
